Request!

2 min read
Admit it, you thought I died.  :P Promise I've just been busy. I hope you're all doing well!  I have been churning out costumes, and am presently working on a few new ones, which will be premiered at Megacon next month.  Can't wait!

In the meantime, I have a big request to ask.  I have entered a photo of my Sugarplum Fairy (Cabin in the Woods) into a photo contest.  I don't ask this very often, but if you have a second to check out the photo and give it a like (if you enjoy it!), I would greatly appreciate it.  The photo is actually doing pretty well, which makes me crazy happy, since it's a horror shot (my favorite thing to cosplay).  But if you could give it a little love, I would greatly appreciate it!  And check out the other photos as well!  There are some great ones there!

The photo can be found at:
www.facebook.com/ezcosplay/pho…
and
contest.ezcosplay.com/items/su…

You are allowed to like it on both pages, if you feel so inclined.  Thank you so much in advance, and I promise not to spam you with any more requests like this any time soon!
Happy crafting everyone!

Ichibancon

1 min read
No, I didn't die. I just started nursing school. ;) Had a little time over the holiday break to work on cosplay shenanigans, which was nice. And this past weekend, I went to Ichibancon, which I always enjoy.
Although I was only able to make it one day due to school, I had a blast. I finally premiered my Clicker from The Last of Us (about time, since it was mostly finished since like July), and it was tons of fun. I enjoy being able to represent games I love so much. I did a fun, though muddy shoot with Jayce, and I can't wait to get those pictures back and start posting them. I was also crazy honored to win first place in the Western division of the craftsmanship contest. I really couldn't believe it, and am humbled.
Unfortunately, Ichibancon will probably be my last con until Animazement in May. But hopefully I'll have some good stuff to show you between now and then.
Hope everyone had a good holiday and New Years! Happy crafting.

A little absent

3 min read
Hey there!  So I know I've been pretty absent recently.  Hell, this is my first journal since June.  But I've got a pretty good reason for it.
I've officially started nursing school.  And although I knew it would be time consuming, I still managed to underestimate it.  Haha.  Frankly, I shouldn't be using this time to write a journal, but I felt the need to explain a bit, and apologize a little.  Mainly to the people I promised back in mid June that I would respond to their notes.  But I just haven't had the time to research and write up my responses.  So for that, I am sorry.  :(

Anyway, cosplay progress, although not halted, is going to be moving extremely slowly for a while.  I have not dropped my clicker from The Last of Us, but progress is slow going.  My plan is to do a shoot with it at the beginning of next month with :iconsoulfirephotography: and :iconsenilionia:.  I should be able to get everything together by then.  Because of my class schedule, I don't have any for certain convention plans in the near future, but I will post here if that changes.  It is also very possible I may be commissioning my dear friend :iconmelvinopolis: to help me with an upcoming non-horror (well, not technically.  It still wigs me out though) cosplay idea, while I have little time to churn out new things on my own.  But I'm going to keep that one secret for a while.  ;)

In the meantime, even though it may be crazy, I do have one project I am prepping for now, and will be working on throughout October.  The Lost Colony, which is a Tony Award winning outdoor play they've been doing out here for decades, is starting a haunted trail this year.  And I am completely honored to be doing the makeup for this project.  Like seriously, crazy excited and wicked nervous.  I may be crazy for trying to do this while making my way through nursing school, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity when I heard about it.  Hopefully I'll learn lots, and not make a fool of myself in the meantime.  Haha.  I will probably be posting a few shots of my character makeup ideas and such as the weeks go by, assuming I have any time in my life left over. :)

I hope everyone's doing well!  Happy crafting.  :)

So I know I'm a little late, but I got distracted by an Anatomy and Physiology midterm when I got back (summer session).  But better late than never.
I had an amazing Animazement this year.  I made it my goal not to put any undue stress on myself, (which I have an exceptional talent of doing), and to try and let things roll off my back if at all possible.  It made for a very fun weekend.
My one negative comment for the weekend would be the horrible limitations they put on photographers this year.  Basically, if your equipment looked "too professional" (which generally meant any camera with a detachable lens, or any kind of light stands), you were told to leave the convention center.  Although I could maybe see their reasoning if I thought really hard about it, the main frustration was that no one was informed ahead of time.  So all these photographers who had spent money on badges, hotel rooms, and fixing up their equipment, had to either just go home, or spend the entire weekend shooting outside.  It wasn't too hot, which was fortunate.  But the wind was pretty horrific.  I felt so bad for them.  But I digress.

Thursday I checked in early and just relaxed.  Hung out with a few people while I could, since I knew I'd be spending most of my weekend applying or removing makeup.  As usual, it was great to get to see so many friends.  I already miss them terribly.

Friday morning I got up early and put on the Demon Nurse from Silent Hill 3.  She is quickly becoming one of my favorites.  The makeup application is really enjoyable, and peoples' reactions are wonderful.  For some reason, people seem to be more comfortable coming up and talking to me in this costume than many of my other horror cosplays.  Don't ask me why. I was fortunate enough to shoot with the amazing Kungfufish Photos and Jayce (Animazeguy).  They're both really sweet and great at what they do.  Hope to have some of those shots up soon.

Friday evening, :iconeveillecosplay:, :iconfushichocosplay:, :iconsenilionia:, and I donned our Mean Girls cosplays.  I've gotta say, horror cosplayer or not, I've never had more fun in a cosplay group than this.  It took about 30 seconds for us all to just accidentally slip into character and just be silly around the con.  Those ladies were simply fantastic.  We were fortunate enough to shoot with both Robert and :iconsoulfirephotography:, and had a blast being just ridiculous.  I'm pretty sure poor Soulfire will have to wade through a decent amount of pictures I ruined because I just couldn't stop laughing.  Oops.  I have a couple of hers I can't wait to post here.

Saturday was a really big day for me, because it was Memory of Alessa day.  I gotta say, I was crazy nervous about doing her makeup until I actually got started, and just found things falling into place.  Gotta say, I love it when that happens.  I also have to thank :iconsenilionia: for sharing her speckling technique with me.  It really helped to fill in the empty space, which is a problem I feel I've always had.  Thank you so much!  The entire process took 6.5 hours, and was occasionally a bit tedious.  She's just got so much muck and yuck on her!  But in the end, I was really proud with what came out, especially for my first go.  As I always say, I'm very much a novice at makeup, and just appreciate every chance I can get to try and learn a few new things.  And this costume taught me sooooo much.  I didn't get much chance to wear her around the con (I started application later than I should have, and didn't get out until about 6:30 that night), but I was fortunate enough to do a shoot with :iconsoulfirephotography:, whom I'd basically been stalking for months about shooting this costume.  My bad.  I've only seen one picture from that shoot so far, but it made me squeal.  Cannot wait to start posting those.

Sunday at the con was just a relaxing day.  Packed everything up and meandered.  Later that afternoon I met up with Soulfire again, and we drove to an abandoned church to take pictures of my Shattered Memories Cybil Bennet cosplay.  It was a lot of fun, though I promise that next time I'll study up, and learn how to properly hold a gun.  I am very thankful for her patience.

All in all, it was a wonderful weekend.  Thank so much to all my friends for being their awesome selves, and thanks to the photographers who shared some of their precious time with me.  I had such a good time.

I plan to head back to that church in a couple weeks to shoot another horror costume with :iconsoulfirephotography:.  Not going to say what the costume is, but it is one I've done before.  Just never really gotten satisfactory pictures of it before (you know, where I actually had any idea how to apply makeup or pose for a picture), so I'm really excited to do it.  Yay!  Not quite sure what's on the horizon after that. Class really starts up in the fall, and I'm not sure yet what the schedule's going to look like. We'll see.

Happy crafting everyone!

Hello there.  I'd like to announce the winner of the 5,000 pageview Kiriban.  :icondark-arctic-fox: managed to screen cap my page at 5,000 views earlier this morning.  They will be receiving a 3 month premium subscription!  They also got to choose a character to see a new picture of.  I will therefore be posting a new Sakuya picture shortly!  Thanks again to everyone for keeping an eye on my page.  Maybe I'll do another one of these someday.  :)

Over the next week or so, I'll be posting a lot of pictures from the massive Silent Hill photoshoot at the Mansfield reformatory.  So be warned.  Gotta say, I had so much fun that weekend, even if I did drive 24 hours in 4 days.  Haha.  Everyone was so nice and friendly.  I got a chance to meet and work with some of my very favorite Silent Hill cosplayers.  Not to mention chat and be very silly with them.  :)
I also very much enjoyed getting to go to the Mansfield Reformatory.  That place is stunning.  Desperately creepy, of course.  I mean, so much happened there.  Occasionally you'd walk into a room, and just feel all the pent up negative energy.  I know that sounds really silly, but you could really feel it.  At the same time, it was beautiful.  So huge, with such a natural decay everywhere.  I'd love to visit another time when I'm not wearing contacts that obscure my vision so horribly.  :) I did wear my Demon Nurse cosplay, so expect lots of pictures of her in the near future.

Finally, Animazement is coming up in less than 2 weeks.  There's still quite a few odds and ends to finish up on most of my costumes, but I'm confident they'll all be finished in time.  I can't make the Charlotte shoot next weekend due to evaporated funds, but I will be wearing my Shattered Memories Cybil to a shoot with :iconsoulfirephotography: the night before Animazement in Raleigh.  So here's my Animazement lineup.  It is (as usual), still a little up in the air, based on how much energy I have after I spend hours putting on makeup in the bathroom.  But I think it'll mostly stay as such:

Thursday: Cybil -- Silent Hill Shattered Memories (Sexualized version) (possibly shoot only)
Friday Day: Demon Nurse -- Silent Hill 3
Friday Evening: Karen -- Mean Girls (part of a group cosplay)
Saturday (afternoon and evening only): Memory of Alessa -- Silent Hill 3
Sunday:  Cybil

Obviously a very Silent Hill-y weekend.  With a random suuuuper girly cosplay thrown in there.  Haha. Mean girls will be a group cosplay with :iconeveillecosplay: and maybe :iconfushichocosplay: and :iconsenilionia:.  Memory of Alessa will be accompanied by :iconsenilionia:'s last minute Heather, which will be lots of fun.  It's been far too long since she and I have done horror costumes together.  I'm very excited about all of these. Lots to do still, but it's mostly fun stuff.  Just can't forget anything.

Happy crafting!
